Customer Reviews about Dr. Michael P. Goodman, MD

  • I first saw Dr. Goodman in the fall of 2014 after being referred to him for possible vulvar surgery. I have a condition called Lichen Sclerosis (LS) that can cause damage to the vulva. Some of the damage it can cause is a gradual atrophy of the labia, clitoral hood and clitoris, a fragility of the skin causing it to have painful breaks--like paper cuts, and a fusing of the clitoral hood--sometimes fusing completely over the clitoris. The damage I had to my vulva was primarily the fusing of the clitoral hood, so much so that there was just a very small hole (an opening the size of a bald q-tip) leading to the clitoris. I had been diagnosed with LS by a gynecologist in Sonoma County who told me that she had not seen the clitoral hood come unfused and it was very likely to stay that way. She prescribed me some steroid and an estrogen cream to apply to the vulva to help with the condition, but refused to prescribe testosterone. I do still appreciate that she diagnosed me with LS before it got even worse as I did see two other practitioner's previous to her who missed the diagnosis. I went on a Yahoo group for people with LS and they recommended a treatment of applying estrogen/testosterone to the vulva as well as a steroid. Some people in the group said their clitoral hood had come unfused with the direct application of estrogen and testosterone. I tried their regimen for almost two years with limited results and that's when I went to see Dr. Goodman. After just a month on his regimen of higher doses of estrogen and testosterone (I think) applied to the clitoral area, the bottom part of the clitoral hood came completely unfused. Dr. Goodman then did surgery to unfuse the top part of the clitoral hood. After the surgery in the winter of 2015, the area healed very quickly and has remained unfused. I was worried that there might be some discomfort if too much of the clitoral hood was separated to reveal the clitoris, but it hasn't been a problem at all. Because of the LS, I still have to apply an estrogen/testosterone cream several times a week, but I feel like I have recovered the structure of my vulva. I cannot really explain what it's like to fear that your vulva is slowly going to atrophy until there's no labia and no clitoris. I have rarely cried as hard as when I fully realized what was happening to my body due to the LS. I think the gynecologist who diagnosed me and the Yahoo group helped me to slow down the damage that was being done, but it was Dr. Goodman that repaired the damage and made me feel like the LS was not just slowed but nearly stopped (as long as I apply estrogen/testosterone cream and a steroid ointment). I am very grateful for that. Thank you Dr. Goodman!

  • I visit Dr. Goodman as a woman over 50. I appreciate his thoughtful advice. I do not feel rushed, I feel heard. I have all my questions answered. Although I see another primary care physician, seeing Dr. Goodman ensures me I have a complete picture of my health as I journey through the second half of my life. From the office visit, to the lab work follow up, to feeling I have great continuity of integrated care, I am glad I see Dr. Goodman.

  • I highly recommend Dr. Michael Goodman. I chose him based on reviews from Yelp, along with multiple physician review sites and I’m so glad I did. Dr. Goodman is a very passionate, caring physician. He came across to me as someone who sincerely cares about women’s health. Dr. Goodman did a bilateral labia majora reduction for me. For some background, I have previously had my minora reduced one side and then the other, as the need arose, with surgery done by different doctors. I was not very concerned with the outcome of the minora reductions since it seemed pretty straight forward - cut them off. However, the majora was a different story. The whole reason for having the reduction was to make them look cute! Whether it was genetics, the two 50 lbs. pregnancy weight gains and losses, age, or a combination thereof, my majora were too saggy especially lying down for my liking (and with laser hair removal there was no hiding it.) The surgery was a great success! I am 6 weeks out from surgery. I have olive colored skin which shows scars and can sometimes make scars that feel ropey. These are not going to be problems with the majora reduction. The result is exactly what I wanted and looks natural. The doctor will send you home from surgery with the admonition to not look for a while as the healing process will go through various stages. I looked of course. While I was never aghast, there was a time or two when I was briefly concerned with how they were shaping up. Those concerns were unwarranted. The procedure is done under local anesthesia. Once the anesthetic was injected, I felt nothing. The doctor warned that the injections can hurt some women quite a bit. I was one of those women. The injections hurt A LOT! But, it was totally worth the pain. (I am going to post this review on multiple sites, so I can help as many women as possible who are trying to decide on a doctor, please don’t disregard my review because of this, I am a real patient with no horse in the race, so to speak.) Dr. Goodman’s practice is full service gynecology by the way. I wouldn’t hesitate to see him for something not covered by my insurance or for something I thought my health coverage was not properly providing me.
